Northern recognises that whilst the emphasis of any safety management system is accident prevention, all accidents, incidents and near misses which occur to staff, contractors employees, customers and members of the public are reported and are investigated thoroughly to ensure that the immediate, underlying and root cause(s) can be identified. Action is then taken to ensure that effective management controls are in place as a means of preventing or reducing the likelihood of recurrence.
