REFURBISHMENT JUST THE TICKET FOR LIVERPOOL LIME STREET

20th April 2009

Passengers at Liverpool Lime Street are benefitting from improved ticket office and travel centre facilities following a £90,000 revamp thanks to investment from Northern and Merseytravel.

The refurbishment has resulted in a more welcoming environment for customers with bright new signage throughout and the removal of old glass partitions in the travel centre.

Automatic doors, hearing induction loops and a new low-level ticket counter have been installed in the travel centre to make it more accessible for disabled passengers.

Lee Wasnidge, Area Director, Northern said:  "The improved facilities at Liverpool Lime Street are a perfect example of how we can work in partnership with Merseytravel to deliver real passenger benefits.  It’s also a great example of where a number of small improvements can make a big difference for passengers as well as providing a better working environment for our employees.”

Lee was joined by Councillors Mark Dowd, Chair of Merseytravel, and Chris Blakeley, Chair of Merseytravel’s Rail Services Committee, to officially open the refurbished facilities.

Councillor Dowd said: “We are constantly looking to find ways to invest in better facilities for passengers. This new-look ticket office is another great example of how we are working with Northern to do just that.”
