Northern Appoints New Commercial Director asset 1

Northern has appointed a new Commercial Director to help lead further improvements for our customers and stakeholder.

Jamie Burles, 37, is already in post where his remit includes revenue development, marketing and communications, customer service, estates management and procurement.

Jamie said: “Northern has a terrific reputation as a can-do company and I am very impressed with the energy and commitment that has turned what was supposed to be a steady state franchise into a very successful, innovative and growing business.

“We want to make further improvements for our customers and stakeholders in the next two or three years and I am really looking forward to the challenge.”

Jamie has a background in marketing, including spells at British Midland, the airline, and then at train operator Midland Mainline, where he was Commercial Director from 2003 to 2006. Most recently he was Managing Director of Physio-Med Services Ltd, which supplies physiotherapy equipment to the NHS.

He succeeds Jo North, who has left Northern after three and a half years to become Customer Services Director and deputy Managing Director at train operator East Coast.

Ian Bevan, Managing Director, Northern, said: “Jamie is a very experienced Director and I am sure his skills and expertise will help us to further improve the service we provide to customers.

“We have achieved a lot in the last five years, attracting a record number of passengers and our punctuality levels are at an all-time high of 92%, but we want to keep making progress and Jamie and his team have a big part to play.”
